Guest Curator | Jessica Young

We are so thrilled to welcome our first guest curator, Jessica Young, as she shares insight into curating a home she loves. Jessica is a Chicago native that fell in love with the charm of Charleston and decided to make the big move in 2020! Selling their Chicago house fully-furnished, she's curated a new home from scratch and documented it along the way. We loved chatting with her about art, design and how she's made her new Charleston home full of color and character while raising three kiddos and one pup.

Take a deeper dive into her world below!

Meet Jessica

With a BA degree in Interior Design, Jessica began her creative journey right after college. Her first job was at a firm that designed all model houses, but she felt the pull to use her creativity in other ways and began her own home staging business. Putting her design background to use, she then opened a retail store in Chicago, selling gifts for the home and more. But as 2020 came around and new opportunities arose, her family made the big move to the Lowcountry and haven't looked back since.

After moving to Charleston 2 years ago, her design style has changed from traditional to a more coastal vibe that living in the Lowcountry brings. She sold their home in Chicago fully furnished so they had to start from scratch when building down south. Wowza!

Jessica pulls inspiration from all the Lowcountry scenes and history behind Charleston. Cooler blues from the marshes and pops of color from the historic architecture in downtown are sprinkled throughout her space. She has found a new love for art living with the beauties of the south and has enjoyed collecting pieces that remind her of their happy place.

Jessica's Miller Gallery Favorites

Take a peek at Jessica's favorites from our selection of artists and how she styled them in her beautiful Charleston home.

"If I could take everything Suzy Lindow does, I would! I am not sure which of her pieces is my favorite. This artwork is of “pool toys” and makes a happy mauve edition to my favorite room in my home, reminding me of summer."

"These Charleston-inspired card sets are perfect for gifting or popping into an acrylic frame and styling on a bart cart or bookshelf."

"The little pop of color in these two pieces by Charlotte Filbert bring so much energy to an otherwise white, blank canvas. I love how they brighten up my space!"

"I’ve completely fallen in love with this artwork. I didn’t fully understand it when I saw it online and then in person, I cannot describe how stunning it is. It’s simple but makes such a statement in the little alcove going into my room. All of Holly Graham's mixed media work is stunning and going to be fun to collect over the years."

Jessica's favorites are the definition of whimsical, coastal and classic. Her mix of textures and patterns bring life into each of her spaces and we are so thrilled she shared her wonderful home with us! You can follow along more on Instagram @simplyjessicayoung or simplyjessicayoung.com
