Lawrence Morton
"I’m a colourfield artist in Toronto who loves to create large luminous works that add a spark of joy and beauty to people’s lives.
I usually begin the process by stripping down the subject matter to its essence and applying multiple layers of transparent colour. Over time, the colours interact, overlap and coalesce, creating a sense of depth and interest.
I work in oils, taking advantage of their unique lustre, richness and long drying time. My process is gradual and deliberate. A piece can take weeks or sometimes even months to complete.
In this fast-paced world where everyone seems to be busy being busy or chasing the next big thing, I’d like to see my work as an escape from all of the hustle and bustle—a place where time slows down and even stands still, allowing viewers a moment of reflection or quiet contemplation."
