"This painting of the Carolinas shows the geographic evolution of my life through a map of the main places i've lived, while symbolically representing my life in subject since maps have played a large role in both my career as a landscape architect and now as a fine artist. The frame or background map is painted in more subdued colors with less detail and captures all the places i've lived in NC and SC throughout my life (with bits of Georgia, Tennessee and Virginia barely showing, too.) The central map is of the Charleston area, my prominent influence for the past two decades of living here, created in bright colors and more focused in the present." - Gret Mackintosh
