Jo Hay
British-American portrait artist Jo Hay chooses subjects who channel empowerment.
Earning an MFA from the New York Academy of Art, Hay is known for her vibrant brushstrokes and bold subject matter centered on social justice, identity, and visibility. Hay’s rabbit series exploded in popularity in the late 2010s, and as each body of work sold out, she began offering archival prints of select rabbit portraits.
In 2025, Hay introduced two major new bodies of work. Super Sapphics, a portrait series honoring nine groundbreaking lesbian singer-songwriters, celebrates courage, visibility, and queer excellence through Hay’s characteristically expressive, large-scale style. Heavenly Creatures, a luminous collection of celestial-titled rabbit portraits, expands her exploration of presence, mythology, and emotional intensity.
Hay now resides in Provincetown, MA with her wife, Carolyn. To commission an original oil portrait, please contact the gallery with size and subject matter requests.
