A Mental Vacation with Artist Suzy Lindow

Miller Gallery is pleased to share a first look into Suzy Lindow's new collection inspired by sunny days and vintage postcards. Lindow is a Virginia-based painter and collage artist best known for her offbeat color combinations and playful marks.

Take a deeper dive into Suzy's artistic process and inspiration with us below.

Meet the Artist

Suzy Lindow is a self-taught painter and collage artist with a penchant for quirk and color. Originally from Minnesota, she studied Psychology at NYU before living in and exploring the American Southwest for the decade following. She's since settled down with her husband and three children in Coastal Virginia, where she spends her non-studio time secretly recording her neighbors doing shirtless lawn care and periodically attempting to get her backyard chickens to wear mini party hats.

She likes to create bold, lively pieces that infuse personality into a space, and her main influences include colorful vintage textiles, tribal artifacts, and folkart. Handmade artifacts and old things have always held wonder even from a very early age where she spent long, wonderous days being dragged along to countless estate sales and dusty antique stores with her mother, and these notes of inspiration continue to play a central role to her work. The offbeat color combinations and playful marks that define her whimsical pieces have caught the eye of collectors from both within the United States and around the world. Her collaborations include Anthropologie, Slowdown Studio, Serena & Lily, and Artfully Walls. Suzy has had the honor of being featured on Design*Sponge, Domino, and HGTV, among other publications.

 About the Collection

"For this collection that I created over the hot, sunshiny months of June through August, I wanted to bottle the bouncy, buoyant, up-for-anything energy that summertime is all about. The vibrant hues of glittering pool toys and classic beach umbrellas conjure up long, heat-soaked days spent relaxing and playing. My signature kooky shapes cast shadows in a color palette reminiscent of vintage postcards from SoCal, conveying the optimistic feeling that the days of sun and fun will never end. This is exactly the feeling I want the viewer to experience, be it July or February—a mental vacation, if you will." - Lindow
