Hay's recent series “Persisters”’ depicts societal influencers and outstanding women who have made an impression with their tenacious resolve to succeed in their pursuit of justice. Hay began the series with Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the second female justice of the US Supreme Court. She was chosen for her lifelong support of gender equality and equal rights coupled with her bravery in speaking out. Justice Ginsburg hung her portrait (the archival print version) by Hay in her office until the time of her passing.
The overarching theme of her large-scale, vibrant portraits is the acknowledgment of human courage.
