"I compulsively started making little textile people late last year. I couldn't explain the urge, or even what they were. They're not spirit guides, they aren't like the Rafiki series, and they aren't really guardian angels though that's as close I as I could get to describing them.  Months ago I unconsciously began to prepare for what is happening in the world today. I became obsessed with cooking and eliminating plastic and food waste. I started getting rid of social noise and returning to the things that feed my soul like reading, walking, nature and animals. I also faced some scary grown-up decisions I didn't think I was strong enough for, like making my mom's end-of-life arrangements. As a result, before the pandemic hit I was already healthier, calmer, lighter, and much stronger than before. When I looked at this piece today I could see the light radiating from this colorful little being. That's when realized who the Wanderers are. They are us. They are better versions of ourselves coming to us from a better future. We are all stepping into the unknown, but there is something ancient in me advising that it's time to be hopeful, it's time to let our true selves shine, and it's time to embrace our new paths." - Robin Howard
