Robin Howard’s artwork ignites a nostalgic, childlike sense of wonder – the electric spark of discovery that we felt so often when we were young and curious. As an assemblage artist, she elevates commonplace materials to a meaningful state. Arranged in a wooden box, each work becomes it’s own world. Castaway objects come to life when placed in a new environment with careful awareness of composition. Howard works with reclaimed wood, textiles and fiber, encaustic wax, metal, found objects, altered objects, and handmade paper. She often begins a piece by creating smaller versions from her own hand-dyed textiles or handmade paper, then combines these wood, textile or paper elements with found objects to make her narrative creations. These intricate, delicate worlds draw the viewer in for an intimate spark of mystery and delight.
